Axiom Consulting Partners is a fast-growing management consulting firm, serving clients across a range of industries and geographic locations. We are looking for a data- and analytics-savvy professional to join our Chicago-based team as a Business Intelligence Analyst. This role works with internal teams and client data resources to understand and solve complex problems.

Axiom’s consultants use their skills and experience to develop client solutions that cover strategy development and implementation, strategic and operational planning, business process and organizational design, as well as talent management.  As a core member of our team, you would work directly with colleagues at all levels, including our most senior professionals and Partners, to drive the design and implementation of business transformation and growth initiatives.

Key responsibilities of the position

  • Develop hypotheses to explain business problems or opportunities and create the detailed analytical work plans required to test them
  • Assess market strategies by evaluating client product data and external market trends. Share patterns and data insights with internal team to develop client recommendations
  • Develop the approach and manage the execution of data gathering (e.g., developing data requests, remote accessing client databases)
  • Complete detailed client system data reviews including assessment of data structure and quality. Write complex SQL statements to manipulate data
  • Complete data cleaning, integration and and transformation to support analytical efforts. Transforming client data using repeatable processes to generate or update variables for analysis (SQL, mySQL)
  • Collaborate with clients and Axiom colleagues to develop new features that allow the team to more effectively test hypotheses or create more accurate statistical models
  • Identify conditions that contribute to gaps or key variances; using data analysis, explore relationships between conditions and outcomes; distinguish causes from symptoms and identify primary causes
  • Prepare financial and statistical reports and monitor trends and variances (Python, R, SAS, Advanced Excel)
  • Use reporting tools (Microsoft PowerBI and Tableau) to create compelling data visualizations that generate new insights or reveal complex relationships between variables
  • Create dashboards (Microsoft PowerBI and Tableau) from data mining and data modeling analyses and regularly update information for internal team and client’s consumption
  • Use modern tools and platforms (Python, R, and/or SAS) to apply supervised and unsupervised learning to datasets
  • Operationalize working models by integrating them with client data and systems through APIs, including knowing and adhering to industry-leading data security practices
  • Draw insights from quantitative and qualitative data, to inform assessments and recommendations
  • Maintain or update business intelligence tools, databases, dashboards, systems, or methods on client projects
  • Drafts compelling, high-quality written materials (PowerPoint, Word) that communicate important messages simply and effectively
  • Contribute to the development of client presentations (PowerPoint) that represent Axiom’s point of view and builds support for our recommendations
  • Work with client leaders in various functions to solve business issues
  • Maintain library of model documents, templates, or other reusable knowledge assets
  • Communicate with customers, colleagues, professional organizations, or others to stay current on industry, business and analytical technologies trends
  • Contribute to firm-building activities, including developing content (white papers, articles), leading research on data trends and supporting conferences/webinars

Technical skills required

  • Production databases (e.g., mySQL, SQL Server, Oracle) and related administrative tools (e.g., SQL Management Studio)
  • Python, R, and/or SAS
  • Business Intelligence tools (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau)
  • Microsoft Office including Advanced Excel

Qualifications & experiences required

  • Bachelor’s degree in management information systems/technology
  • At least 1-3 years’ experience working on an analytics/business intelligence team
  • Experience working with teams to develop creative solutions to challenging data and business problems
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25%
  • U.S. citizenship, H1-B Visa or a Green Card
