Amy McDonald, Partner 

Amy McDonald advises clients requiring strategic and organizational change to generate profitable growth.  Over three decades, she has worked with C-level executives and their teams to align people, process, and systems to achieve execution excellence, especially when required to enable new strategies and business models.  Amy’s expertise includes transformation, strategy implementation, and organizational performance.

Experience

Amy combines experience as a consultant, as an operating executive, and as a Wall Street equity analyst. Her consulting experience includes McKinsey & Company, where she was a leader in the health care and pharmaceuticals practice, focusing on strategy; Katzenbach Partners, a firm integrating strategy and organizational performance approaches to help organizations realize their strategic intent; and Bateman Hendrix Group, her own firm advising the C-suite on issues of strategy, performance, and organization alignment. At specialty insurer Assurant, Inc., she founded and led the firm’s first Transformation Office. At Credit Suisse and Lehman Brothers, Amy led coverage of the medical technology industry.

Notable Achievements

  • Transformation:  Led property and casualty insurer’s executive leadership team in identifying highest value, complex, cross-enterprise opportunities required to execute change in strategy.  Established governance, funding approach, and KPIs.  Six initiatives stood up and launched.  Value creation estimated to be $300M+.
  • Strategy:  Partnering with a newly appointed CEO and the Board of a regional health insurer, led the team creating a sustainable growth strategy focused on entry into new product and geographic markets and standing up the key initiatives required to implement.  Impact included establishing a leadership position in the new markets, and development of new capabilities required to compete.
  • Organizational Performance:  For services company, developed organizational model to enable shift from customer-centric to product-centric business model, unleashing revenue growth potential and driving margin expansion through standardization and scale leverage.   Surfaced key value-drivers, created organizational guidelines, designed organization structure, defined key roles, identified capability gaps and plan to fill gaps.  Met planned accelerated revenue growth and increased margin expectations.

Amy is a former Trustee of the Helene Fuld College of Nursing, former Special Advisor to The Business Talent Group and to The Barthwell Group, and has served in various leadership and board roles within the local community.

Education

Amy earned her MBA from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia and received her BChE in Chemical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
