Mark Clark, Executive Advisor

Mark Clark brings over 30 years of experience and insight defining and delivering IT/digital strategies that create value for business partners.  As former Chief Information Officer of a Fortune 500 company, Mark provides real-world insights on driving digital objectives.  He has deep expertise in strategy and business development, IT transformation, program management, process improvement, and culture change.


Mark operated as an IT leader for a broad range of global manufacturing businesses with vast international experience that included expat assignments in Singapore and Shanghai, China.  A product of General Electric’s leadership development engine, he brings a unique mix of business, technical, and operational perspectives essential to navigating today’s evolving digital landscape.

Mark retired from Corning Incorporated after 20 years in a variety of business engagement, shared services, and architecture IT leadership roles culminating in becoming the Chief Information Officer (CIO) in 2015. While at Corning he launched the IT function’s journey from a requisite IT service provider to a value creating business partner for the company. Prior to Corning, Mark spent 14 years with General Electric (GE) in leadership roles that spanned IT, Business Development, and internal consulting across several divisions/corporate staffs including GE Plastics, Healthcare, Superabrasives, Corporate Audit Staff, and Corporate Business Development.  He launched Pivot IT LLC in 2020, a consulting business focused on providing mid-size companies looking to undertake digital as well as IT organization transformation with strategy and CIO coaching advisory services.

Notable Achievements

  • Designed and implemented a multi-year transformation IT strategy at Corning to increase the value realized from an annual IT spend of $500+ million.  The strategy resulted in $150+million cost reduction and supported $2B of revenue growth and record profits through digital investments in revenue channels, smart manufacturing platforms and automation.
  • Significantly strengthened cyber and other IT controls through integration of cyber security, regulatory management, recovery planning, policy oversight, and program risk assessment to optimize governance, prioritize investments, and provide the Corning board a clearer picture of the state of IT risks.  The new structure both reduced IT related exposures and prevented major breaches or business disruptions.
  • Drove several company-wide global supply chain system consolidations at both Corning and GE delivering material IT savings as well as significant business value including increased sales conversion as well as reduced working capital and process efficiencies.
  • Re-engineered global IT services structure achieving top quartile low cost services benchmark, lowered price of IT services by 10%, and improved operational metrics with low capital outlay.
  • Consolidated GE Plastics Pacific IT organizations into one 50-member team to deliver solutions and capabilities for business to achieve billion-dollar revenue growth opportunity.  Efforts included Implementing an integrated manufacturing system across plants in Asia that reduced order to delivery cycle time in half.

Publications & Affiliations

While a CIO at Corning, Mark was a member of the Gartner Research Board as well as CIO Global 50.  He has spoken publicly on the topic of IT strategy implementation at Conferences such as Gartner Symposium, Pink2019, Wipro Winnovate.


Mark earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems from Bentley University followed by GE’s well-known post college rotational, Audit Staff, and Crotonville leadership programs.  Mark also completed the Center for Creative Leadership’s Global Leadership Development Program and is a certified Six Sigma Green Belt.
